Moesin is an integral membrane protein that shares homology with ezrin and
radixin. This family of molecules (ERM) is thought to link cell surface
receptors to the cytoskeleton, and each has a cytoplasmic tail that binds
to actin. Similar molecules exist in Drosophila, so this is an old and
conserved function. We are interested in moesin because its expression is
dramatically increased shortly after infection of human T lymphocytes with
HIV (Scheuring et al., AIDS 12:563,1998).
