Please ignore my first premature attempt at solving the problem. It
clearly does not work. Instead, look at the problem this way:
Every 4 years puts us ahead 5 days in the day of the week, or 5/4 days
ahead per year. Since you want to be in the same day of the week in some
year that is a multiple of four (another leap year) from the leap year of
interest (2000), then any multiple of four (4,8,12,etc.) whose product
with 5/4 is also an even multiple of 7, gives the number of years you need
to subtract to be in a match year. So....
5/4 x 28 = 7
Try 2000 - 28 = 1972.
