19 November 1998 Negotiated Rulemaking on Clinical Diagnostic Laboratroy Tests Recommneded Medicare National Coverage Policy for Flow Cytometry Late on the morning of the 18 November 1998, in between discussions on free PSA and CEA, flow cytometry was discussed. Because of the large number of responses from the flow cytometry community, the appropriate workgroup held a teleconference earlier in the week and decided to recommend that this matter be tabled and referred to an interm process. I was able to read many of the cemments and they were excellent. Many who responded raised objections about setting a limit on the number of reagents to be used. Many also expressed concern that the North American Consensus Document was not referenced. The reason cited for this was that that particular committee was unable to come to consensus on a common panel of reagents. Although the flow community was well represented at this meeting, the individuals who sent responses to this meeting are to commended for doing so. There were many excellent ratonales given for the development of a national coverage policy and at the same time maintaining this powerful tool in the clinical laboratory. It is my thought that certain members of Cyyometry Mailing List will appreciate this information update.
