I don't have much experience with measuring bacteria, but 
nevertheless I have done so with our Vantage, and with the ND filter 
in place you should still get a signal that is off the noise 
theshold. Of course, if you remove it, you get much stronger 
signals. But for those small particles, SSC may be the better 
choice anyhow. For some histograms of North Sea bacteria, stained 
with some Molecular probes´ green DNA stains and measured on a 
FacsVantage, try this web site:
