Dear Flowers We have a five year old child whose initial bone marrow and peripheral blood comprised about 85% of cells in the blast region with immunophenotype CD45weakCD34+CD15+CD2+CD13+/- MPO-CD33-CD11b-CD3-CD4-CD5-CD7-CD8-. He has had several courses of standard AML chemo, which resulted in elimination of blasts from the peripheral blood, but no change in the bone marrow. His clinicians are now querying the possibility of neuroblastoma or other small cell tumour. Are these markers consistent with this diagnosis, and are there others you would suggest to support this diagnosis? Yours, Beth Rees Royal Hobart Hospital Hobart Tasmania, Australia
