** Reply Requested When Convenient ** Is not term under the acronym FACS , "Fluorescent Activated Cell Sorter" embodies also technologies which have nothing to do with flow conept? I refer to MERIDIAN's ULTIMA, a clearly fluorescence activated cell sorter, decidedly not based on the flow principle. [Oh boy ! In our incessant quest for saving laser toner, aren't we confounded /obfuscated by acronyms? To think of it .... the proper English word "FISH"... how exclusively it became hijacked by the fluorescent in situ hybidizing community! Pray tell me? What an impoversihed environmentalist/cytometrist like yours truly, working with pisces cells, e.g. carp, brown bullhead and stoneroller lymphocytes, should do? Soon , when let us say, we'll have fluorescent probes for the vitellogenin gene, should we publish FISH in fish? What a linguistic nightmare! Peter Bercz, USEPA/NERL/Cincinnati -- End --
