I have the very same problem with my Power Mac 7600/120 with OS 7.5.3. I still have a lot of space left on my hard drive and it really gives me cause to scratch my head. I believe it isn't hard drive memory the message refers to but RAM memory. It usually happens when I am trying to print a Cell Quest document and there are two or three other documents in the queue. I have called BD about this and they are clueless why this should happen. Likewise, Norton finds no problems in my system either. I usually have to shut down the entire system and reboot. Sometimes it locks up so badly that I can't even warm boot and have to power down completely and get the slap on the wrist message about not going through the shut down procedure. This is really annoying and slows progress to an unacceptable pace. I really hope that someone has had this problem and has successfully solved it. I would love to learn by their experience too. It appears to be triggered by the calculation of folder sizes from Views in the Control Panels folder. It goes like this: An unexpected error occurred because there isn't enough memory available. Closing windows or quitting applications programs can make more memory available. System software is using 3.7K Total memory is 16,384K Unused block is 12,636K BD recommended that I trash the finder preferences and restart the computer. This always works but only until I try to view my folder sizes (to see who is hogging all my hard drive memory). I find no errors when I run Norton Utilities. Rebuilding the desk top has never helped and this problem is occurring on a Quadra 650 with System Software 7.5.5 and 2 Power Mac 7600s with System Software 7.5.3. I store data in separate folders with each person getting their own folder. All individual folders (there are about 70 individual folders) are in a folder called Users. Has anyone seen this before and have you found a way around this? Thanks for any and all suggestions. Glenn Paradis MIT Flow Cytometry Core Facility gap@mit.edu
