Eric,
I use Hematall Diluent (H-60620D,  Valtech Diagnostics, 806 5th Ave,
Brackenridge PA 15014, phone 412-224-2440).  It is simple PBS, and very
inexpensive.  I sterilize it thru a .2 micron filter before use . . . no
problems.
