Although I have always said when asked that in my experience cells stained with Hoechst 33342 and pyronin Y didn't grow in culture, I also tried to point out that my experience wasn't extensive. Dr. Srour's recent papers have authoritatively shown that there is life after Hoechst/pyronin - or can be if you're better at growing cells than I am. Anybody with any interest in the topic should read them. -Howard
