Regarding the best UV beads for alignment, David Dicker wrote that he tried
UV beads from Polysciences and found their CVs to be horrendous, so he used
Coulter DNA Check beads instead. We used DNA Check beads from Coulter for a
long time, but they are expensive and quality control is not good. Contrary
to David's experience, we found that Polysciences UV beads Fluorescebrite BB
(Cat #183-10) are extremely good and very cheap per use because you get an
enormous concentration. The CVs can routinely be measured below 1% using an
Argon laser in UV using reasonable power levels (e.g. 100 mW). I don't think
there is a better source of UV beads around for the quality and value.
