This may be a repeat, but I sent this out last week and never saw it posted. I am worried about the appropriate gates to use when analyzing the frequency of apoptosis by propidium iodide or similar methods. The sub G0 events are considered to represent apoptotic cells. But is there any data showing that each such event represents a single cell? Don't cells (nuclei) break into multiple small fragments? If so, doesn't counting each of these fragments as a single cell lead to an overestimation of the actual number of cells undergoing apoptosis? Any help would be much appreciated. Henry H.
