Exciting Postdoctoral Position.....(Graduate positions also available) Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. The successful candidate will work in the area of the role of reactive oxygen/nitrogen intermediates in tissue injury and have an interest in inflammation research (or related). Of particular importance will be the use of cell culture and animal models of vascular and microvascular injury. Experience with intravital microscopy would be advantageous, but not necessary. We will consider excellent candidates from a variety of fields. The successful candidate will be one who shows an ability for scientific discernment, an ability to work hard, and a driven desire to apply cytometric technologies in innovative ways (basically a minor god). The candidate will be expected to take advantage of the excellent cytometry facilities available in this center. The laboratory consists of a 5,500 sq.ft complex in which are contained specialized areas for tissue culture, general preparation and surgery/laboratory space, office space and instrumentation laboratories. Within the latter are several flow cytometers (Coulter Elite, Epics 753, Bio-Rad Bryte) used for both cell sorting and analysis, two confocal microscopes and an array of image analysis systems. The confocal scopes include a real time DVC 250 with a very sensitive intensified camera and analysis workstation running Metamorph & Metafluor. The other confocal system is the MRC 1024 UV- visible which is a state-of-the-art system on a Nikon 300 inverted scope. Both systems have temperature controlled platforms for physiological measurements. For image analysis we have two Silicon Graphics Indigo 2 workstations running VoxelView, and systems running Microvoxel and Optimas, as well as the MRC 1024 image analysis packages. In addition, the laboratory maintains all of the usual research facilities necessary for a good research program. The applicant need not have prior experience with these particular instruments. We want an excellent scientist first and we can teach you how to use the tools we have available. This could be an excellent opportunity to develop new and exciting skills in cytometry. Salary comensurate with experience. West Lafayette, while not considered the center of the civilized world, is realy quite a nice place to live! The cost of living is low, but the quality of life is high. Some corn is grown in the region! Interested applicants should make initial contact via email or fax to: Dr. J.
