I take exception to Mike Solomn's characterization of the exchange between Mario Roederer and Mark Edinger as: "somewhat acrimonious and rather pointless disputes about energy transfer semantics even worse." Anyone who thinks that the difference between quantum efficiency and energy transfer is a semantic one doesn't know what they are talking about. To equate the two processes is sloppy thinking at best. It is a disservice to the readers of this bulletin board to allow such information be posted without a rebuttal. Mario Roederer is correct in describing quantum efficiency as the number of photons emitted divided by the number of photons absorbed. Since energy transfer is a non-radiative process, quantum efficiency can NOT be a measure of energy transfer. Regarding the tone of some of the posts on this bulletin board, I rather enjoy a heated debate as long as the facts are presented correctly. td Simple answers are for simple minds. -- ============================================================================== Thomas Delohery | Internet: t-delohery@ski.mskcc.org Manager, Flow Cytometry Core Facility | Phone: (212) 639-8729 Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center | Fax: (212) 794-4019 1275 York Ave. Box 98 | New York, NY 10021 | ==============================================================================
