          Hello Ray

As I found out after we upgraded to DOS 6.22 I can run the
elite in a DOSbox in WIN 3.1 to acquire up to nearly 1MB of
data. Then it comes up with RAM full. Unfortunatelly it cuts
out with memory errors in listmode or when trying to switch
          to 256 by 256 dot plot resolution. I run a 486/66 but
unfortunatelly with only 12Mb RAM. Could you send me if
possible a copy of your config.sys setup and a memory map
when calling up DOS with your pif file?

          Thanks in advance

To the best of my knowledge, ther IS NO WAY to get the output of ELITE 4.0
MULTIGRAPH (region statistics) out into a file that can be imported into a
database or spreadsheet program. I finally just had to hand enter the data
into a spreadsheet, with all the problems that one can encounter with hand
entering of data. The cure is ELITE 4.1, its MULTIGRAPH program has an
export function that will save the region statistics (after massaging, if
necessary, when the FLOW GOBLINS jerk with your autoset isotype
cursors...which is another discussion that I wish someone more eloquent and
knowlegeable than I would discuss) into a file which is easily imported
into anything. We import it into an EXCEL spreadsheet and run a macro to
get rid of all the GEEK FLOWEESE that also comes across.

We have been running ELITE 4.0, 4.1 and XL software under Windows 3.1,
Windows for Workgroups and WIN95 for a long time (of course, not in
aquisition mode, however, I think it would work, except for WIN 95). For
WIN 95 running of ELITE 4.1, you have to check the DOS exclusive box (or
something like that) in the properties right mouse click properties for the
shortcut. We use QEMM 7.5 as a memory manager with no problems under all
the operating systems. We have pretty nice systems to do this on (100+ MHZ
Pentiums with 32-96 Meg RAM) which might make all this easier.

When running the ELITE or XL softwares under Windows, the best way I have
found to get either the total "gallery screen' or a specific histogram into
Windows is to use the "DOSCAP" function of HIJAAK for Windows (all this
again running under Windows). This saves the whole screen as an"IGF" file
which one incredibly can crop, change fonts, line widths, colors, etc. using
the HIJAAK program, save it as a WMF, CGM or alternatively OLE it into a
presentation program like Powerpoint or Persuasion for some stunning slides.

I also heard that Coulter is going to release some XL software early next
year that will run under Windows nicely. The problem with a lot of the
stuff they have to date has to do with fonts from an out of business company
(CGI) and a proprietary PHARLAP protected mode memory module?

Hope this helps
