Dear Jeff, Usually the apoptotic cells will give a sub-diplolid peak in the DNA histogram. This is due to extraction of low molecular weight DNA fragments when the fixed cells are resuspended in PBS for staining. The efficiency of extraction depends on the cell type and the buffer in which the cells are resuspended. There is a large literature on this topic. Search on apoptosis, flow cytometry and DNA histogram. Mike Ormerod 34 Wray park Road Reigate RH2 ODE UK +44 (0)1737-241726 (voice & FAX)
