Thanks to all who replied. Messages continue to come in, but I have to draw the line... Of 19 faclilities (14 in USA) on which I have information, 6 are in small institutions (50-200 employees), 5 medium (600-2500) and 6 large (5000-15000). The smaller institutions often have just as large a flow facility, and a higher proportion of flow users (10-47% in this category, compared to less than 3% in larger). Hard to draw any usefull conclusion from this! The typical flow unit has 1.9 sorters and 1.9 analysers with 2.3 full time operators. It serves 26 users in 8 groups. The range on these figures is wide. One operator at a large institution runs 1 sorter, 1 analyser and serves 100 users in 30 groups; at another, 2 sorters and 2 analysers are run by 4 operators serving 130 users in 30 groups. One has 5 machines operated by 2 people serving 15 users. Presumably these units are very different in what they can provide, and the needs of the groups they work with vary. Hope this information is useful, and thanks again for replies. ******************************************************************* *Peter Openshaw p.openshaw@ic.ac.uk * *Respiratory Medicine Tel:+44 171 723 1252 x 5781/6 * *St. Mary's Hosp.
