A workshop on uses of the Internet in cytometry is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 October, 13:30 ; location to be determined. The following seems to fit with what several people have done or are in the process of doing. "ISAC Internet Workshop" Tentative schedule 1. The Internet and Information Access: Dave Coder 2. GOPHER and Cytometry data: Gunter Valet 3. Using the Internet Efficiently: Steve Kelley 4. The Purdue Cytometry Bulletin Board: Paul Robinson 5. The NFCR Data Repository: Robb Habbersett 6. Future Directions: disucssion & questions We would like all attending ISAC to attend and bring your comments, suggestions, and ideas of what is useful and where we should be going. One area that has great promise is the Data Repository growing at the National Flow Cyometry Resource at Los Alamos. The idea of having a Data Repository arose from the need to have a common collection of data that would help those writing analysis software verify that their programs could properly read different flow data formats, and that new analysis procedures give correct answers. It is easy to extend this concept of a data repository to include a collection of cytometry data (flow cytometry initially) that provides examples of the diversity of flow cytometric applications from both biological and technical perspectives. From the biological perspective, data for different cells types, disease states, cell surface markers, DNA contents, etc. would be available. From a technical perspective, data from different acquisition systems and instruments would be present, along with calibration data sets, and data sets that can serve as references for new analytical and statistical procedures.
