Epics® Altra™ (Coulter)

The EPICS ALTRA is the cell sorter from Beckman-Coulter.

Lasers

- Air-cooled Argon ion laser, 488nm (15 mW)

- Air-cooled Helium-Neon ion laser, 633nm (10mW)

- Water-cooled Innova® Enterprise™ II, 351-364 nm (50mW) and 488 nm (180mW)

- Water-cooled Spectrum (50-250 mW) with lines 457 nm, 488 nm, 514 nm, 520 nm, 530 nm, 568 nm.

Detectors

- The Forward Scatter detector is a photodiode with 1.4-19° angle detection and we also have an optional PMT FLS detector

- The Right Scatter detector is a photomultiplier (FL1)

- Up to six photomultipliers tubes with spectral range from 300 to 800 nm can be installed to collect the fluorescence signals. Sensitivity is <800 equivalent FITC and PE molecules The user can configurate the optical design with the standard Altra flow cytometer filters:

- 488 nm BP
- 525 nm BP
- 575 nm BP
- 610 nm BP
- 488 nm dichroic LP
- 550 nm dichroic LP
- 600 nm dichroic LP
- 640 nm dichroic LP
- 488 nm laser blocker
- 530 nm short-pass laser blocker (Forward Scatter position)
- 1.0 ND

The basic optical set-up collects fluorescences centered approximatively at:

- FL2 = 525 nm
- FL3 = 575 nm
- FL4 = 610 nm
- FL5 = 675 nm

Particle Size Range

- 0.5 to 40 µm
- < 200 µm with the large particle sorting option

Flow / Sorting Rates

- The pressures of both the sample and the sheath fluid can be adjusted by the user.
- Sorting rates:

- up to 10,000 particles/s (with air-cooled lasers)
- up to 15,000 particles/s (with water-cooled lasers)
- up to 30,000 particles/s with the HPSS option

Sample Handling

- Glass or plastic tubes (12x75 mm)

- Single-tube sampling

- Autoclone sorting option system capable of sorting 96 different populations in a single tray

- High-speed sorting (up to 30 000 events/s)

- Forward fluorescence detector

- Large particle sorting option (< 200 µm)
