Caribbean Cytometry and Analytical Society

The CCAS Managing Committee in Barbados.

The mission of the Caribbean Cytomtery and Analytical Society (CCAS) is to improve access to HAART in Barbados and the Caribbean by removing technical and social barriers to care. CCAS is a professional organisation that trains specialists involved in the care, treatment, and monitoring of HIV/AIDS persons. It was founded by members of the Ministry of Health, Government of Barbados and the University of the West Indies to meet the urgent training needs for specialist monitoring of HAART in Barbados and the region.

The CCAS has brought to Barbados and the region international technical experts to conduct training workshops and seminars. Being a vendor-neutral workshop, the CCAS has also given the opportunity to scientists to choose the best diagnostics for their settings as other smaller Caribbean island states are still in the process of up-scaling their national HIV programmes.

CCAS workshops are now being hosted across the Caribbean region

To date, the CCAS has trained over 300 HIV/AIDS specialists from over 20 countries. After four successful workshops in Barbados in 2008 the CCAS workshop was held for the first time outside Barbados in Suriname.

The CCAS has partnered with societies in the United States and Europe such as the Clinical Cytometry Society (CCS) and the European Society for Clinical Cell Analysis (ESCCA) providing opportunities for regional scientists to attend international workshops to gain expertise and to network.
