The History of Cytometry CD 8

This CD is one of the series of 9 CD's we have produced for the field of cytometry over the past 9 years. Our original goal was to help our colleagues discover and manage the digital world of the Internet and to help them by accumulating a lot of material in one area ready for use.

Here are some interesting facts....

In November 1995 when we were making CD1.... IE did not exist (some say it still doesn't!). The entire disk was coded in HTML 2.0 which was the standard. HTML 3.0 had just been issued, but we were concerned that it might be too advanced for some....!

Netscape IPO was issued on 9 August 1995 - just 2 months before we started creating CD1 - but most people had never heard of Netscape until well into 1996.

When we made the first CD, you actually had to download Mosaic and install it on your computer to run the CD. We had instructions on how to install a browser on the first CD. Can you believe there was ever a time you did not use the web???

Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories is committed to creating learning opportunities for scientists - particularly our colleagues in the field of cytometry. We have two series that we are currently working on - the cytometry series and the imaging series.

This disc was prepared by the staff Multimedia Knowledge, Inc. under the direction of the CD Publisher, Professor J. Paul Robinson of Purdue University. 5,000 copies were distributed to scientists around the world. The disc is supported by sponsorship from industry and academia.
