Brian, I saw this instrument at the Bowdoin flow course. I was very impressed. The instrument has a nice tight optical bench and a small footprint for a three laser machine. The solid state laser version of the instrument looks to be a little bigger than a laser printer. We ran cells stained for intracellular markers which we suspected would minimally fluoresce and obtained excellent results. The instrument has small, state of the art PMTs from Hamamatsu. The instrument allows you to collect both compensated and uncompensated data simultaneously, thus freeing yourself from the dreaded under/over compensated data issue. The instrument requires no optical alignment which is cool and calculates the dead time between the laser beams. My only issue with Cytomation is support. Will I have to wait a month if my instrument goes down? If you are looking for a 1 or 2 laser instrument check out the Coulter Cytomics FC500. A really nice, sensitive, modern instrument. We are an all BD lab. I like BD support but the LSR isn't that great and the Caliburs are dinosaurs compared to the new instruments. Dear Flowers, We are thinking of buying a new bench top flow cytometer and have been advised there is a new machine available from DAKOCytomation. - called a CYAN. has anyone any experience of its use or any info ?. Thank you for reading this message. Regards Brian Shenton.
