StemCells, Inc. is looking to fill an entry level technical position in the flow cytometry laboratory. This position will incorporate extensive training in the field of multi-parameter flow cytometric analyses and sorting. Instrumentation in the laboratory includes the FACSCalibur and FACSVantage flow cytometers. Flow cytometry is a central technology employed by our research and development programs toward the characterization and refinement of candidate stem cell populations targeted for clinical cell therapeutics. While previous experience in flow cytometry would be advantageous, it is not a mandatory pre-requisite to this position. Coursework relevant to this position would include cell and molecular biology, chemistry, and physics. Working with flow cytometry instrumentation requires a fair amount of mechanical aptitude and the ability to trouble-shoot and perform well under stress. Although flow cytometry would be the primary responsibility of this position, the candidate would also be expected to contribute a portion of their time cross training in other laboratories. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, tissue harvest and preparation, cell culture, immunological and histochemical staining, microscopy and other general laboratory techniques. It should be noted that stem cell research typically involves working with potentially biohazardous materials. Persons interested in this position should also be willing to work flexible hours as needed including nights and weekends.
