Date: Mon Apr 22 2002 - 19:10:26 EST

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with flow cytometry and
basic research experience for employment at the new Vaccine Research
Center (NIH) flow cytometry core facility. The core facility
supports the activities of the VRC research scientists as well as the
VRC clinical trials testing new vaccines against HIV, Ebola, and
other agents. The VRC is a highly interactive and exciting
environment that provides a unique opportunity for combining basic
and clinical research (see http://vrc.nih.gov).

The core facility is responsible for the operation three FACS
Caliburs equipped with multiwell autosampler systems. In addition,
the facility has two high-speed FACS DiVa sorters. One is located in
a BSL-3 biohazard facility and is used for viable infectious sorting,
and the other is 12-color capable; hence both require significant
user support. The core facility is located on the 5th floor of the
new Building 40 on the NIH Bethesda campus. The core is dedicated to
bringing the most advanced technology to our research and clinical
experiments, and will continue to evolve rapidly to utilize new
technologies.

For this position, duties will include routine instrument operation
for VRC users, as well as assisting and training users to perform
FACS-based assays and data analysis. The successful applicant will
assist in the development of QA/QC and reagents for the facility,
including the maintenance of a 12-color antibody library. In
addition, applicants should be capable of performing basic laboratory
techniques including tissue culture, molecular biology and have the
ability to work with infectious agents in a BSL-3 facility.
Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience with
immunophenotyping and at least 1 year experience in cell sorting. The
applicant must have a degree in medical technology or a bachelor's
degree in science or higher. Considering the significant amount of
interaction with users, excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

For more information, please contact Mario Roederer as noted below.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement of
research experience and career directions, and contact information
for three references. Electronic applications are preferred. Please
provide an indication of the earliest date that you are available.
