Director of Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting The University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Director for the Laboratory of Flow Cytometry who will manage the flow cytometry Core Facility, support research and development of flow cytometry methods, interact with faculty and students to interpret data and extend current capacities in flow cytometry at the University. The Flow Cytometry facility serves a user base of some 50 individual laboratories including the Bierne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research and The Miles H. Thaler Center for AIDS and Human Retrovirus Research. The current facility contains Becton-Dickinson FACScalibur and FACSvantage units. A key component of this position is the ability to interact and communicate with faculty in the development of new projects requiring flow cytometry. The successful applicant will be expected to stay current with developments in the field of flow cytometry and its application to basic and clinical research. The director will train personnel in the facility, manage the facility budget and trouble shoot instrument problems. The position of Director is a faculty level position in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Virginia and includes full University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applicants must have a M.S. or Ph.D. in cell biology or a related field or a BS in engineering and documented experience directing and/or utilizing flow cytometry. Familiarity and practical experience with a wide range of flow cytometry applications is required.
