How to run the whole sample?

Hi All:

We have the FACSCalibur and need to analyze the whole sample.
In other words, the machine will run out of fuild inside the tube for a while.
Does that damage the machine?
Or is there other way to protect the machine, such as using some lighter liquid upon the sample?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
