I agree Howard, this device is useless for tuning lasers etc I use mine mainly to check the power outputs of the blue and red lasers in benchtop instruments in situ. Somebody else also mentioned the Coherent LaserCheck. I bought one a few years ago, and the trouble with it is not that it is the size of a pen, but that there is no easy way of mounting it or holding it still. The result is that you get different (albeit sometimes only slightly different) power readings every time. This might be great if you are trying to check the approximate power of the laser in a CD player, but it isn't really too useful in a flow lab - or at least in my flow lab. Coherent does have an extensive line of sturdier and more expensive power meters. -Howard
