We are about to purchase a flow cytometer for studies on HIV in Botswana. Two machines that we are considering are the BD FACS Calibur and the Beckman-Coulter EPICS XL. We currently have a BD FACS Count and need to upgrade. Does anyone have any advice on the relative advantages of either machine? Our requirements will be initially high volume CD4/CD8 counts (for which we need to be able to store or initially prepare samples at remote sites for several days before counting) and then more advanced immunocytochemistry research applications related to vaccine studies. Any general comments on the performance of these two machines would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Trevor Peter
