I am a bit surprised that no one has mentioned what I consider to be an excellent basic text in flow cytometry (and sorting). James V. Watson. Introduction to Flow Cytometry. Cambridge University Press (of course!), 1991. It gets a bit further in to flow than the other books mentioned, but I find it easy to understand (unlike the author), and a great reference for the bits of cytometry that no one else covers. T.
