Annexin V and apoptosis

To the ongoing discussion on the interpretation of the Annexin V- PI binding
data let me add one more comment. Annexin V - positive (PI negative) may
also be macrophages or other cells that egulf apoptotic bodies (e.g. see
Marquet et al., Nature Cell Biol., 1: 454-456, 1999). Apparently, a fusion
of plasma membrane of apoptotic bodies with plasma membrane of the engulfig
cell makes the latter Annexin V positive.
