Actually, this is a posting for a job opening.  But with the abundance of
positions posted recently, I thought I would make this one a little more

Technical Director
Flow Cytometry Facility

The Immunology Applications Core Facility (IACF) at the University of
Chicago seeks a full-time Technical Director to run our busy flow cytometry
facility. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the IACF
and will interact with the technical directors of the other IACF
cores.  The core facilities have recently moved into newly renovated space
with additional room for expansion indicating the continuing importance of
core facilities at the University of Chicago.

The incumbent will primarily be responsible for operation and maintenance
of two cell sorters (BD FACStarPlus, and Cytomation MoFlo), development and
maintenance of a multi-laser bench top flow cytometer in a beta test
environment (BD LSR), oversight and maintenance of multiple bench top
analytical flow cytometers including those in satellite facilities
(FACScan, FACSort, FACSCalibur) and oversight of associated computer
workstations for data analysis.  The incumbent will also be responsible for
daily supervision of one research technician and a student technician in
the laboratory.  The facility is a high volume core facility utilized by
more than 75 principal investigators and their laboratory personnel.  The
technologist will provide complete training to facility clients in flow
cytometer operation and in software programs to properly analyze their
data.  In addition, the incumbent will develop and implement new uses of
the technology through protocol development.  Administrative duties include
preparation of billing and usage reports and annual progress reports for
funding agencies.

The IACF is a cluster of facilities with a common mission  to serve the
research needs of the University faculty by providing state-of-the-art
technology and expertise in technical areas. At the heart of this mission
is continuing education opportunities for IACF personnel include attendance
at national meetings and workshops and University classes and
seminars.  These opportunities provide the mechanism for personnel to
remain experts in their fields.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in biological or physical science
and a minimum of 5 years of experience in flow cytometry.  Candidates with
advanced degrees are encouraged to apply.Additional instrumentation
training will be provided where necessary.
