A one day meeting: Flow Cytometry Immunophenotyping of Leukaemia and Lymphoma. Monday 27th November 2000. Conference Centre, Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham Road, London SW3 6JJ. This year we have decided to organise this traditional flow cytometry meeting, normally held in June, during the month of November. This was decided because of exceptional circumstances and the extraordinary number of flow cytometry meetings organised during this year. These include the ISAC meeting in Montpellier and Pathology 2000 in Birmingham both in May and the Bench Top Flow Cytometry meeting in Newcastle in July. The RMS is the only society in the UK which is active in the promotion of Flow Cytometry by the organisation of meetings and courses throughout the UK, and I am grateful for their support in the organisation of this meeting. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the main aspects of the use of flow cytometry in the diagnosis of leukaemia and lymphoma. In particular to highlight the common problems encountered when doing the immunological techniques and interpreting the results. The meeting will be of interest to both people who are new in the field and those with some experience. Some changes have been made to the contents of this year meeting. An extensive and varied number of topics from the routine use of flow cytometry will be covered, such as the common pitfalls and mistakes in the analysis of cell of markers and topics of current interest such as detection of P53, and apoptosis. The participation of the sponsoring companies with a brief presentation of their latest products will be also of interest to the participants. The afternoon session will include the popular case presentations of the most interesting cases encountered over the past year and participants are encouraged to bring cases of interest to discuss. This year I am grateful for the support offered by Terry Hoy and his team of the Department of Haematology of the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff. Finally this year I included the Guest Lecture "CD34 auto/allo transplantation". This year will be given by Dr. Bruno Brando form Italy. Dr Giola Driva from the Metaxa Hospital (Greece) will talk about the detection of DNA ploidy in leukaemia.
