Position Available: MANAGER FOR RESEARCH FLOW CYTOMETRY FACILITY The East Carolina University Flow Cytometry Core Facility of the School of Medicine Biotechnology Program is seeking a full-time lab manager. This laboratory is equipped with two Becton-Dickinson FACScan flow cytometers and a cell-sorter FACStar+ with associated computer workstations for use by research investigators. A variety of research applications are supported by this facility, including surface receptor analysis, ploidy and cell cycle analysis, calcium signaling and response trafficking, and platelet/micro-particle quantitation and characterization. Sterile cell sorting and dual laser work are also performed. The laboratory is also in the process of acquiring a laser-scanning confocal microscope system. The lab manager is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of the cytometers, training of investigator-users in data acquisition and analysis, and implementation of new hardware/software as needed. REQUIREMENTS: a B.S. degree in a relevant science major (Master's preferred), at least three years experience in a research laboratory environment (supervisory experience preferred), and certified completion of the B-D training course in flow cytometry (no substitute). The successful candidate will assume full responsibility in duties at the beginning of employment. Work hours will be 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, with flexibility to meet the needs of investigators. The laboratory director is Arthur P. Bode, Ph.D. (bodea@mail.ecu.edu).
