Position at Aurora

From: KnappT (KnappT@aurorabio.com)
Date: Wed Feb 16 2000 - 14:45:32 EST

Aurora Biosciences Corporation is a leader in the application of novel
fluorescence technologies for functional analysis in mammalian cells and
high throughput screening for drug discovery. We currently have an excellent
opportunity for a flow cytometry operator available in our facility
supporting a dynamic range of research through the use of novel proprietary
fluorescent dyes and assays. Under the supervision of Aurora's flow
cytometry core facility staff, the incumbent will perform cell sorting using
two multi-laser FACSVantage SE Turbo sorters, analytical flow cytometry
using a BD LSR multi laser benchtop flow cytometer, and other related
fluorescence applications using state of the art fluorescence plate readers,
fluorescence microscopes and imaging systems.

The successful applicant will perform daily sterile sorting of pools
and single cell clones, maintain quality control of cell sorters,
analyze/interpret data and recommend sorting strategies to researchers. Most
sorting will be based on functional responses such as gene expression,
calcium flux, and membrane potential in addition to conventional flow
cytometric applications such as cell cycle, apoptosis and immunophenotyping.
Experience with Aurora fluorescence technologies is not necessary, but a
firm command of instrument optimization and troubleshooting is required.
Other duties will include daily maintenance and upkeep of the flow cytometry
core facility and experiment optimization.

Requires a BS degree (with a background in cellular or molecular
biology preferred) and 2-5 years experience in flow cytometry (with some
sorting experience) or equivalent experience. A strong understanding of
flow cytometry theory and principle is important. Must have excellent
organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, ability to optimize
experimental procedures, interpret data and modify methods and protocols.
Experience with Becton Dickinson flow cytometers and Macintosh computers a
plus.
