To those of you still using the old HP system on your FACS flow cytometers. Remember to set the date back to 1972 BEFORE anyone uses your system or you may wonder where all your files went! If you haven't reset it and you now have an apparently wrecked file system, don't despair the solution is reasonably simple. What has probably happened is that files have been accessed in a directory, say "n" - #11:/n this has caused the OS to update that directory's date to the current date 19100 not 2000, which is displayed as 01/01/ 0, this renders the entire root directory inaccessible to Lysys and the files of directory "n" to the OS as well. The solution is to put the clock back to 1972 and then copy a file, a small one will do (I used instrument settings from a floppy) into directory "n" thereby forcing its date to 1972, the system will then be OK except for directory "n". If you are unfortunately in Lysys already you can reset the clock back to 1972 from 19100 here. Otherwise go to the pascal OS (operating system) - quit BD applications or reboot. To set the date from the OS press V for version. then enter the date, the format is DD-MMM-YY I think you can ignore the timezone unless the HP is connected to the internet! To "restore" the file system, at the OS prompt press F for filer. Filecopy what file? #3:filename for a file from a floppy Filecopy to what? #11:/n/filename where n is the directory in question, filename may be replaced by the $ wildcard. You can use filecopy to copy any correctly dated files out of directory "n" to elsewhere on your system. ############################################################################ Email: alan.bishop@imvs.sa.gov.au Tel: +61 8 82223602 Fax: +61 8 82324092 Mail: Alan Bishop IMVS PO Box 14 Rundle Mall Flow Cytometry Facility Hanson Centre for Cancer Research, level 2 ADELAIDE SA 5000 AUSTRALIA
