The Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory of the University of North Carolina Hospitals has an immediate full-time, entry to midlevel position available. The Laboratory performs a variety of clinical tests: diagnosis and monitoring of acquired and inherited immunodeficiencies and leukemias/lymphomas, bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell CD34 enumeration, fetal hemoglobin detection, CD55/CD59 assessment in PNH, lymphocyte and neutrophil function assays, monitoring of monoclonal antibody drug therapy for transplant rejection and immune reconstitution after transplantation, and HLA-B27 detection. The laboratory is also actively involved with the UNC Advanced Testing Laboratory (ATL) of the Aids Clinical Trails Group (ACTG), the evaluation of new clinical procedures and operates a core facility for university and medical center researchers. This varied work environment continually provides many new learning opportunities. The laboratory is well equipped with a 4 color FACSCalibur and three 3 color FACScans from Becton Dickinson. This position requires a BS/BA in biological sciences, a working knowledge of immunology and hematology, along with good communication, organization and interpretation skills. ASCP Registration in Medical Technology and experience and/or training in flow cytometry are highly desirable.
