I've never done this, but you can take a snapshot of the entire screen on a mac by pressing command+shift+3. This creates a pict file and saves it to the hard drive with a name like "picture1". You could then open this file in a graphics program and edit it as you like. Still a little complicated, but better than scanning a printout.
