Hi Maciej, I thank you for your message. Most of the CD8 and CD4 cells are
from T cell lineage. However, there is a significant number of non T cells
that still express CD4 or CD8, for example a subsets of Dendritic cells
from mieloid origin express CD4, Another subset of lymphoid dendritic cells
also express CD8. You can argue that those subsets are in minute proportion
in regard with the bulk of the T cells. However, when you go into the
gating of the subsets for CD4 or CD8, what it could be about 1% turn out
being higher. There is a recent reference form the DC meeting in Australia
published in immunology today. "Dendritic cells: multilineal and
multifunctional, by Grabbe S, Kämpgen E. and Schuler G. Immunology today,
september 2000, No 9 431.
Also, there is the group of killer cells that carry CD8 but they are not T
cells.
I hope this comments help. Regards Rafael
