Hi Maciej, I thank you for your message. Most of the CD8 and CD4 cells are from T cell lineage. However, there is a significant number of non T cells that still express CD4 or CD8, for example a subsets of Dendritic cells from mieloid origin express CD4, Another subset of lymphoid dendritic cells also express CD8. You can argue that those subsets are in minute proportion in regard with the bulk of the T cells. However, when you go into the gating of the subsets for CD4 or CD8, what it could be about 1% turn out being higher. There is a recent reference form the DC meeting in Australia published in immunology today. "Dendritic cells: multilineal and multifunctional, by Grabbe S, Kämpgen E. and Schuler G. Immunology today, september 2000, No 9 431. Also, there is the group of killer cells that carry CD8 but they are not T cells. I hope this comments help.
