Friends in flow, I am stepping aside as director of the cytometry facilities here at the University of Illinois to focus full-time on new technology development. We are looking for someone ready to assume the role as director of a mature, state-of-the-art set of core facilities. The facilities are equipped with Two Mo-Flos and Three EPICS XL instruments. The laboratories are large and well equipped. We have a large user base and strong institutional support. It is definitely a time for growth and expansion here at UIUC. I am very excited about the future here and I plan to partner with the new director in the introduction of new cell handling and measurement technologies. Gary Durack POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Director of Flow Cytometry Biotechnology Center Flow Cytometry Facility Proposed Starting Date October 16, 2000 or as soon as possible Qualifications Required: M.S. in a biologically related field or B.S. in engineering and at least one year of experience in flow cytometry. Highly desirable is the ability to trouble-shoot instrument problems and make modifications as required for individual experiments. Familiarity with a variety of applications of the technology is important. Responsibilities The Flow Cytometry Director will develop research support and training programs in flow cytometry and, over time, extend the applications of flow cytometry. In order to fulfill the requirements of the position, the Director should have extensive knowledge of cell biology and applications of flow cytometry. The Director will be expected to continue to be informed about the developments in the field in order to make judgements about equipment and data analysis software acquisition and services to be provided. The Director will have primary responsibility to consult with faculty in development of projects. The Director will also have responsibility for training and supervision of technical personnel and management of the facility budget.
