Easy fix, at least in PowerPoint. Create a box around the text you do not want to display. Choose the box and line colors the same as your background. You can then create other text boxes to relabel the axis. Occasionally the hidden text will 'peak' through; use the order command in PowerPoint and send it to the back or bring the new text box to the front.
