Mark et al.,

I looked into the various anti-BrdU clones a few years ago. There are several available beside the Florida/Gratzner's clone (U Cal, U Minn, private, etc.). Unfortunately I do not remember all of the details; but, just out of curiosity, I did look up the information on the Gratzner clone. I think the patent of interest actually issued in July of 1985, so I do not think it will be in the public domain until July 2002. Below is a cut and paste job from the IBM patent website showing claim 1 listing ATCC deposit info.

I hope this helps.

US4529700 07/16/1985 Hybridoma cells secreting a monoclonal antibody
specific for 5-bromo and 5-iodoeoxyuridine and reagents for measuring
    cellular proliferation

    Claim: I claim:
	1. A hybridoma which is deposited at the American Type Culture
Collection under ATCC accession number HB-8150 and which is composed of a
hybrid cell resulting from the fusion of a murine plasmacytoma cell from
plasmacytoma cell line SP 2/O Ag 15 with an antibody-producing mouse spleen
cell from a mouse immunized with the conjugate of 5-bromouridine or
5-iodouridine and an albumin carrier molecule, said cell producing
antibodies specific for 5-bromodeoxyuridine or 5-iododeoxyuridine.
