At our lab, we used a program called Foxpro to custom design a database for our freezer inventory. I believe Foxpro (at least the older version that we use) creates files that can be read by Access. The new versions use Visual Basic to program the files. In the good-old-days, we used, at Georgetown, a program called AIMS, that allowed us to custom linked databases. That was on an old Wang system, but I saw an article one a few years back about a PC version of this program. I really don't remember who makes that one. Anyway, both of these are designer programs that you can custom make databases. Just a couple of options, and I am sure that most database programs can be programmed to work this way if you like. I have no experience with off-the-shelf freezer database programs.
