Extremely, given that Macs don't have a BIOS...
(ok, the new ones have ROM in RAM which I suppose is very remotely similar...)

And incorrect...
I personally know people who have gone back to OS8.6 from OS9.0 or
even maintain two hard disk partitions with different OS versions (I
even think Adaptec recommends this a workaround for some current
problems with Toast).

What you may be referring to is what David Chambers described a while back...

As to original problem of CellQuest on a G4 I can see two solutions -
give up on CellQuest (give FlowJo a try!) or keep pestering BD to
come up with the patch to allow CellQuest to work with OS9.0.

me wear it :) )

Dear all--

I spoke to technical help at BD last week and was told that they
are diligently working on getting CellQuest to a point where it will
be OS9 compatible. In fact, the tech claimed that availability is
projected for next month. The clincher: Mac will soon upgrade to
OS9.02!! Is there no end in site?!
