Luminex & CAP

CAP Today is a publication from CAP- College of American Pathology.
They are involved in the certification of ALL clinical testing
technology in hospitals & reference labs. If you have a Lab Medicine
or Clinical Path dept in your institution, you can probably pick up a
copy there. It has been a few years since I was in the clinical field.
I don't have a readily available address. (They must have a web site).
If memory serves me correctly, you would need to be a member or part of
a member institution to get a regular subscription.

They are going to send me a copy. If anyone wants a fax of the story &
rebuttal, send me your fax#. I could email the text of MY part now, but
the Luminex rebuttal will only be in CAP Today. (Which I think would be
the more interesting part).

Oh- quick clarification. I do think they have a very exciting
technology. It will very likely revolutionize clinical diagnostics (and
research too). In the story, it came across like I felt they needed 5
years to get it "working". I actually said they COULD do it in a
year-depending on the resources they pumped into it ($$ and personnel).
Five at the OUTSIDE. In fact, given how far they've come, I'd be
disappointed in them as a company if it took 5 years to see a tweak-less
product! (Especially with the new dedicated instrumentation they are marketing).

I do NOT have experience with Luminex technology, but I HAVE been
involved in development of clinical tests & instruments. I have seen
companies move products from the drawing board to PhaseIII clinical
trials at lightening speed; and others putz along for so long that their
competition catch the wave and beat them to shore. So it really comes
down to: WHO has the vision? A lone company tech, or top level?

The bigger the shove, the faster the momentum.
