Description of the position:
   A Flow Cytometer Operator/Immunology Laboratory Supervisor 
position is available immediately at the Center for Vaccine 
Development.
  The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a
multiuser core facility using a 3 laser EPICS ELITE ESP flow
cytometer/cell sorter system and perform research in various vaccine
immunology and microbiology projects at the cellular and molecular
levels. Additional responsibilities will include to train other
technical personnel, prepare reports and presentations and maintain
long term storage of list mode files and documentation pertaining to
the Flow Facility and Cellular Immunology Section of the CVD. 
 
  The Center for Vaccine Development offers a unique environment to
study cellular and molecular determinants of protection to
infectious diseases in humans.  The CVD, largely supported by NIH
funding, has earned an international reputation for genetical
engineering and testing vaccines against typhoid, shigellosis, 
cholera and malaria. Based at the School of Medicine, University of 
Maryland at Baltimore, the CVD was established in the mid-1970s as 
one of the first facilities to evaluate vaccines in community 
volunteers.  It is one of only two university vaccine centers in the 
world engaged in the full range of vaccinology - from basic science 
through vaccine development, immunological studies, clinical 
evaluation and field studies. 

     The successful candidate should have a B.S./M.S. in 
Microbiology/Immunology or equivalent, a minimum of 4-6 years of
professional experience in flow cytometry, including sorting, and a
solid understanding of basic immunology. Experience in the
measurement of cytokines by ELISA and flow cytometry, cytotoxic T
lymphocyte activity, lymphoproliferation, and other cell mediated
immune responses, handling of radioisotopes and working with mice,
is highly desirable.  Salary is negotiable.
