iMac and CellQuest

Hello to all,

Has anyone been able to get around the ADB security dongle problem when
installing onto an iMac? 
I've been trying to install CellQuest onto an iMac, which will be used as an
analysis station.  The lab purchased an "iMate" which is USB on one end and
a female ADB port on the other. When the ADB dongle is attached, it is left
open on the other end.  CellQuest will not run.   Does the ADB dongle need
to be in series?  Or am I missing the whole idea completely?
