Lora, At 02:31 PM 6/3/99 -0700, thus did you send forth: >Does anyone know of an available MAC software package that I could use to >keep track of the usage of my cytometers. My lab is beginning to operate >more and more like a Core Facility, and we're beginning to experience >instrument breakdowns and computer problems as well. I'm most interested in >having a log-in/log-out to control the cytometer's use and would like >something to log in all computer activity. We are a core facility and we use FileGuard by ASD Software. We have the 5-user FileGuard Remote version (lets you administrate all your Macs from a single Mac). MacWarehouse carries it and there is an academic discount (I noticed the .edu domain in your email address). I like this software a lot and it hasn't caused any problems with our workstations or the Macs running the cytometers. You can do things like restrict what hours of each day of the week individual users may log on, what software they can run, copy, or put onto the computer. It keeps daily log files where you can tell exactly what people were doing (running Cellquest, printing (Print Manager), logon failures, for example). It also logs when the computer crashes and who was logged on and running what software at the time. --Janet ---------------------------------------- Janet E.
