As Vice President of Luminex, I would like to thank Bunny Cotleur of the Cleveland Clinic for conducting her informal survey of our Laboratory Multi-Analyte Profiling (LabMAP) technology. Also, I would like to thank the 15+ respondents who took part in the survey. The results of the survey are consistent with the feedback we are receiving from customers. Assay development requires a dedicated effort and we recommend that customers attend our training course. In our experience, once you master bead-based assay development, scale up is readily accomplished. Our first generation system, the Luminex RO (formerly known as FlowMetrix), requires compensation and correction at excessive signal levels. However, our new instrument, the Luminex 100, avoids these issues. We know that people who use our beads without our system are more likely to experience problems. Luminex hardware, software and beads are an integrated system. Therefore, we have instituted a policy to provide beads only to customers with a complete system. We are distressed that some potential customers perceive our targeted marketing efforts as neglect. The demand has been overwhelming and we must focus our resources --- on-site demos are generally not feasible. We are excited by the enthusiastic response our technology has generated, and we are confident that the speed, sensitivity, and low cost of the LabMAP system make it the optimal platform for a plethora of applications.
