Sorting those clumpy epithelial cells

Any suggestions for sorting rat thyroid epithelial cell lines (PC-CL3,
FRTL-5) which grow in a monolayer and tend to be clumpy and clog the nozzle?
I have suggested holding the cells in EDTA (0.3mM) on ice prior to sorting.
We prefilter through nylon mesh.
