Chicken RBCs...

Hi:

While also being subscribed to the bionet.immunology listserv the topic of
CRBCs came up as far as hemmaglutinin assays. Naturally the topic of where
to get them came up and as many know, Sigma sells the lypholysed
glutaraldehyde fixed CRBCs. The only minor "downside" to this is that
they often need mild sonication to get single cells.

I parused a few butcher shops here in east TX and inquired about CRBC. But
as it turns out, even they get thier chickens "pre-done" from the slaughter
house. I elected not to pursue going to the slaughter house myself. I
should note that the most entertaining aspect of asking butchers about
chicken RBCs was watching them relax when I showed my university ID badge
in an effort to convince them I wanted the CRBCs for a legitimate reason,
and not for some satanic cult.

Well, it turns out that if anyone want fresh CRBC one need look no further
than Lampire Biological Labs, P.O. Box 270, Pipersville, PA. 215.795.2838
Voice/ 215.795.0237 Fax. They have a web site at http://www.lampire.com
from which info and a catalog can be obtained.

Hope this helps.... sure beats getting strange looks from butchers..

David
