I would like to know if there is evidence that cells going into apoptosis can
also continue to synthesize DNA. In our animal system we observe that the
majority of the primary B cells during 3 day culture are in G2M by PI staining
by 24-48 hrs
and in apoptosis by TUNEL by 48-72 hr. [H]-thymidine uptake indicates that DNA
synthesis is occuring and peaks at 72 hr. ([H]-thymidine in culture last 18
hrs). Duel staining for cell cycle and apoptosis shows that it is the G2M
cells that are in apoptosis..... Peak thymidine uptake at 72 hrs when most
of the cells are in S/G2M and apoptotic in G2M suggests that these appoptotic cells are
continuing to synthesize DNA.
